A total number of 3000 residents of Kwadon community in Yamaltu-Deba LGA received the edible seedlings in February 2024 from the project by the community to enhance their means of livelihood. The seedling includes moringa, pawpaw, mango, guava, blackcurrant, eucalyptus, basanite etc. such species can be used for a variety of purposes including food, timber, fuel, medicine and fiber.
Kwadon Community of Yamaltu Deba LGA is a very re-known area in Gombe State, the community is blessed with a fertile land and water which the people are using for both irrigation/dry season and rainy season farming activities. There are high commercial activities in the area due to the availability of assorted farm produce. Therefore, the beneficiaries were encouraged to plant the seedlings to enhance their means of livelihood through the food they provide, shade they produce, the shelter provided for birds and small animals and income generation for the community.
The seedlings have grown after six (6) months and have started bearing fruit and vegetable for both commercial and household use. Also, as part of our feedback interaction with the Beneficiaries they testify that they used the moringa vegetable for cooking and make some wood with the eucalyptus tree. Moreover, subcomponent B2 Community investment of ACReSAL project addresses Landscape restoration in the community-selected degraded areas which will promote hybrid agroforestry models on communal lands, using plant species chosen by the communities.
