GOMBE STATE WILL PARTNER WITH ANG- Gov. Inuwa Yahaya

The Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has stated that his administration will support and partner with the Association of Nigerian Geographers to deepen research and ensure sustainable landscape management in Gombe state.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya made this known while declaring open the Northeast Zone Conference of the Association of Nigerian Geographers (ANG) at the Gombe State University.

Represented by the Project Coordinator of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes – ACReSAL, Gombe, Amb. Sani Adamu Jauro, the Governor charged the participants comprised of researchers, scholars, policymakers, and students to have high-level and fruitful discourses that would proffer solutions to the myriad of environmental and climate-related challenges that are
commonplace, especially in the northeast zone of the country.

He said that his administration launched the Gombe Goes Green-3G project to address some of the pressing ecological challenges in the state, adding that the target was to combat land degradation, desertification, erosion, and loss of soil nutrients.
“Today, we are proud to say that we have recorded huge achievements in that regard. We have planted over 3 million assorted trees across the state through massive afforestation and generated 27,000 job opportunities for thousands of our erstwhile idle youths. The 20-hectare woodlot plantations established in each of the 11 local government areas have now become matured forests providing cover for the soil to prevent erosion.” He stated.

Governor Inuwa reiterated that his administration’s devotion to creating a good environment was hinged on the realization that the position of the state as a hub of economic activity in the northeast and the country as a whole cannot be strengthened without giving priority attention to the environment.
