Gombe State Acresal Provides Support for the Review of GOSEPA and Forestry Laws
The Gombe State Agro-Climatic Resilience and Semi-Arid Landscapes – ACReSAL has facilitated the review of the extant laws on Gombe State Environmental Protection Agency – GOSEPA and Forestry.
Speaking during a 3-day retreat organized by the State Ministry of Water, Environment and Forest Resources, in Bauchi, the Gombe State ACReSAL Project Coordinator, Dr. Sani Adamu Jauro said the project provided support to the Ministry to retrofit the laws to align with current realities as part of institutional and policy strengthening.
Dr. Sani Adamu expressed hope that the laws after review would ensure effective environmental and forest management and protection.
He applauded the Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for his passion and support toward a better and sustainable environment.
While declaring the retreat open, the Commissioner of Water, Environment and Forest Resources, Alh. Mohammed Saidu Fawu commended ACReSAL for supporting the entire review exercise. He also thanked the state Governor for giving priority attention to issues regarding the environment.
In their separate remarks, the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Bar. Zubairu Mohammed Umar, the Chair of the House Committee on Water Resources and Environment, Musa Manaja Zambuk, and the controller Federal Ministry of Environment, Adamu Emmanuel assured support for the process that would lead to the establishment of fitting laws to regulate both GOSEPA and Forestry.
75 stakeholders consisting of Lawyers, Legislators, Foresters, CSOs, Security Agents, and Religious and Community leaders are participating in the retreat.
