Gombe ACReSAL Partners with NDLEA

To Create Awareness On Drug Abuse
The Gombe State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project, in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), organized a one-day training session for stakeholders involved in the implementation of ACReSAL activities in the state.
During the event, the Gombe State ACReSAL Project Coordinator, Dr. Sani Adamu Jauro, explained that the training aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and its impact on economic activities, particularly among the youth in the ACReSAL workforce. He emphasized that this training is part of the project’s strategies to ensure the occupational health and safety of workers engaged in various activities across the state.
Dr. Jauro praised the NDLEA for its efforts in combating drug abuse in the state, noting that these efforts complement Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s administration in its fight against the harmful use of drugs.
Alhaji Sale Danburam, the Gombe State Secretary General of Jama’atu Nasril Islam, expressed his appreciation for the initiative, urging the youth to refrain from drug abuse and highlighting its prohibition in Islamic teachings.
Reverend Jim James Amos, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), also spoke on the issue, pointing out that drug abuse can lead to mental health problems and contradicts Christian teachings.
Mrs. Orpha Gabriel Ladan, the resource person for the event, discussed the NDLEA’s mission to eradicate illicit drugs in Nigeria through rehabilitation, counseling, raids, and prosecutions.
A participant, Maryam Abubakar from Jauro Abare, thanked ACReSAL for organizing the training and pledged to conduct community sensitization on the dangers of drug abuse.
The training event was attended by representatives of religious and traditional leaders, ACReSAL line MDAs, and various civil society organizations.
