GOMBE ACRESAL PARTNERS WITH JEWEL BIKERS FOR CLIMATE ACTION THROUGH TREE PLANTING
In a bid to intensify grassroots climate action, the Gombe State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project has teamed up with the Jewel Bikers Club to plant trees in the Shehu Abubakar District (BAP 4) of Gombe metropolis.
The tree planting event, held along newly constructed access roads, brought together ACReSAL staff, community residents, and members of the Jewel Bikers—a volunteer group known for their environmental advocacy and youth-led conservation drives. Participants planted fruit-bearing trees in a move seen as both a symbol of resilience and a practical step toward mitigating climate change.
Dr. Sani Adamu Jauro, Project Coordinator for Gombe ACReSAL, praised the Jewel Bikers as “strategic partners” in the fight against climate vulnerability, highlighting their long-standing dedication to tree planting and environmental stewardship.
He said the partnership with Jewel Bikers was part of ACReSAL’s broader environmental restoration program aimed at greening urban corridors, enhancing community resilience, and advancing sustainable development across Gombe State.
“This collaboration reflects renewed energy and shared commitment to protecting Gombe’s environment,” Dr. Jauro said, noting that the project’s success relies heavily on community ownership and sustained civic action.
Mohammed Bashir Magaji, President of the Jewel Bikers, described the campaign as a model for youth-driven climate engagement. “Our goal is to amplify efforts that make a real difference,” he stated. “We commend Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for his leadership and for creating the enabling environment that makes this possible.”
Residents, including Haruna Mamuda and Musa Ibrahim, expressed gratitude for the development efforts in the BAP 4 area. They pledged to nurture the newly planted trees and ensure they thrive, seeing them as both a source of shade and a symbol of progress.
