Gombe State’s Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) inaugurated the Gombe Local Government Area Peace Building Committee and a Community-Based Organization (CBO).

Speaking during the event today at the Council Chamber, Dr. Sani Jauro, the State Coordinator of ACReSAL, explained the committee’s role in overseeing projects within the area and emphasized the importance of integrity in their duties, which will be monitored. He noted that this initiative stems from a collaboration between the nineteen Northern Governors and the World Bank, aimed at strengthening community security.

Dr. Jauro assured members that they would receive training in international best practices and cautioned against bush burning due to its environmental harm. He thanked Governor Inuwa Yahaya for his commitment to state development, highlighting that ACReSAL has invested over twelve billion Naira in local projects, including the construction of the Doma gully.

In response, Deputy Chairman Muhammad Adamu Manga expressed gratitude for ACReSAL’s significant contributions, pledging to combat bush burning and urging communities to take ownership of completed projects.

Danladi Aliyu, the ACReSAL focal person for NGOs, stated that each CBO consists of five members from each of the eleven local governments.

Earlier in a welcome remark, Councilor Abdulrahman Sharif praised ACReSAL and Governor Yahaya for addressing gully issues and called on communities to safeguard the projects.

Each intervention area, including Gabukka, Bajoga, and Shamaki Wards, has a Peace Building Committee with community and security representatives.
