GOMBE ACRESAL, FEDERAL FIRE SERVICE TRAIN STUDENTS ON PREVENTION
The Gombe State project office of Agro-Climate Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL), in collaboration with the Federal Fire Service Gombe, organized a one-day enlightenment campaign for the students of Jibwis Islamic Secondary School. The theme of the event was “Green and Safe,” focusing on fire prevention and the benefits of tree planting.
During the event, the state Comptroller of the Federal Fire Service Gombe, DCF Sulaiman Muhammad Sulaiman, emphasized the importance of educating students about the dangers of fire outbreaks, particularly during the harmattan season.
He encouraged the students to share the knowledge gained with their families to help protect lives and property and advised the public to ensure that all electrical appliances are turned off when not in use at home and in the office.
Dr. Sani Adamu Jauro, the Project Coordinator of ACReSAL, represented by Aminu Maigari Malala, highlighted that the main goal of ACReSAL is to enhance environmental sustainability and save lives through tree planting.
He noted that ACReSAL supports Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s initiative to plant one million trees each year and stressed the importance of tree planting in combating climate change and desertification. He urged the students of Jibwis to refrain from cutting down trees.
In his goodwill message, Malam Abdul’aziz Sikiru, the Vice Principal of the school, praised ACReSAL and the Federal Fire Service for organizing the enlightenment campaign. He urged the students to apply the knowledge they acquired and ensure that the seedlings planted in the school are nurtured to full maturity.
