The Gombe State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) has provided crucial support to 100 youths in fish farming through the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Community Development Service initiative led by corps member Ishag Abdullahi Shehu. The program, known as the Agricultural Youth Empowerment Programme, aims to boost fish production and create sustainable livelihood opportunities.
During the official presentation of 2,500 fingerlings and 10 bags of feed, Gombe State ACReSAL Project Coordinator Dr. Sani Adamu Jauro praised Shehu’s efforts, noting that they align with Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s commitment to improving the standard of living for ordinary citizens. He commended the corps member for his initiative and reaffirmed ACReSAL’s dedication to supporting youth-led agricultural, environmental, and water projects.
Dr. Jauro emphasized that ACReSAL remains open to collaborating with young people, particularly corps members, whose community development efforts align with the organization’s mission of sustainable landscape management.
Representing the Registrar of Gombe State University, Deputy Registrar, Sarki Musa lauded ACReSAL’s role in agrarian reform and youth empowerment. He urged other corps members to follow Shehu’s example and expressed optimism that the beneficiaries would sustain the intervention.

He encouraged beneficiaries to remain dedicated and assured them of continued support from the community.
Addressing attendees, Ishag Abdullahi Shehu shared that he had trained 100 youths in fisheries to increase fish production, create job opportunities, and reduce crime by engaging young people in productive activities.
Expressing gratitude, beneficiary Samsun Musa Maijama’a thanked ACReSAL and Shehu for their support, stating that the initiative would contribute to the state’s economic growth. He assured that the beneficiaries would begin selling their fish within six months.
