Precision Development Conducts Agricultural Needs Assessment in Gombe State
Precision Development (PxD), a consulting firm engaged by the Federal Project Management Unit of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL), has carried out a comprehensive needs assessment in Gombe State.
The initiative is part of efforts to develop a Digital Precision Agricultural Extension (DPAE) platform targeted at smallholder farmers in northern Nigeria.
Arriving in Gombe on 16th July 2025, Team Lead Dr. Toyin Olugbemi explained that the DPAE platform aims to deliver climate-smart, location-specific agricultural advisory services. “PxD is collaborating with ACReSAL to connect smallholder farmers with digital innovations that support risk management, increase productivity, and enhance resilience to climate shocks,” he said.
Dr. Olugbemi noted that the platform will provide timely services—such as weather forecasts, pest alerts, and soil health insights—delivered via voice and text in local languages through a multi-channel digital system.
Gombe State ACReSAL Project Coordinator, Dr. Sani Adamu Jauro, welcomed the team and praised the selection of Gombe as one of the pilot states. “Gombe is an agrarian state where over 80 percent of residents rely on farming for their livelihood,” he stated.
He lauded Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s sustained support for agricultural development through the state’s 10-Year Development Plan, DEVAGOM.
During the assessment visit, the PxD team engaged with representatives of various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), including the All-Farmers Association of Nigeria and women groups, to understand local agricultural needs and ensure inclusivity in the program’s design.
