ACReSAL’s Climate Action Gains Royal Endorsement in Gombe
The Emir of Funakaye, Alhaji Yakubu Kwairanga, has commended the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project for its transformative impact on the environment and rural livelihoods in Gombe State, describing its efforts as pivotal in reversing the effects of climate change.
Speaking during the distribution of energy-efficient cooking stoves in Bajoga, Funakaye Local Government Area, the Emir praised ACReSAL’s interventions in land restoration, sustainable development, and climate resilience. “ACReSAL has become a household name due to its numerous environmental and empowerment initiatives across our communities,” he said.
Kwairanga highlighted the significance of the clean cookstove initiative, noting its potential to reduce household expenses and curb deforestation.
He urged beneficiaries not to sell the stoves, emphasizing their role in alleviating economic hardship and protecting the environment.
Gombe State ACReSAL Project Coordinator, Dr. Sani Jauro, revealed that over 800 stoves have been distributed across seven communities, with an additional 100 allocated to Local Government Council and other stakeholders for further distribution to other relevant beneficiaries.
He explained that the stoves use minimal briquettes, offering a cleaner alternative to traditional cooking methods that contribute to tree felling and greenhouse gas emissions.
Jauro also used the occasion to rally grassroots support for Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s climate agenda, encouraging residents to collect free tree seedlings from ACReSAL nurseries statewide. “Our projects have restored degraded land, improved farming practices, and empowered women and youth,” he said.
The event underscored ACReSAL’s commitment to community-driven climate solutions and its growing role in shaping a more resilient Gombe.
