ACReSAL Trains Grievance Redress Committees in Gombe

The Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project has kick-off a 2-day training workshop for the recently established Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Gombe State.

The training which was in preparation for the commencement of the 21 Kilometers (km) gully erosion control project in the state, was organized by Jewel Environmental Initiative, the focal Nongovernmental Organization (NGO) for the Gombe State ACReSAL.

The workshop is aimed at training the committees members on their rules of engagement and regulations towards civil work construction within the affected communities around Wure Ledde, London Maidorawa, Jauro Kuna, Koronzaki, Ziringaza, Jauro abare, Arawa, Wurokesa and Tukulma Beto and the Federal College of Education Technical (FCET) Gombe.

Declaring the workshop open the ACReSAL’s Project Coordinator (PC), AMB Sani Adamu Jauro, commended the state government for providing the needed counterpart funding for the long-awaited project to see the light of the day.

He urged the committee members to dedicate themselves in working for the success and speedy completion of the project and to adopt means of tackling challenges that may arise in the cause of implementating the project. According to him, unresolved disputes and concerns can hinder the progress of the project.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the focal NGO, Samaila Umar Bima tasks the participant to pay attention during the training. According to him, conflict resolution is taskful and needs concerted affort to be addressed. He called on the committees to focus and embrace issue based approach and to shun sentiment or bias and forward all form of the complaint to ACReSAL for lasting solutions.

On his part, Chairman of the GRM committee who doubles as the Ward Head of Jauro Kuna, Alhaji Abubakar Isah, commended organizera of the workshop stating that it would equip the committee members with needed knowledge and skills to address issues. He assured that the committee would work to ensure compliance in executing their assigned duties.

He called on committee members to positively respond to issues that might arise in the course of project implementation. Speaking further, the traditional leader appreciated the management and other units of the Gombe State ACReSAL Project as well as the Jewel environmental initiative for organizing the workshop.
