The Gombe State office of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project has officially handed over a newly constructed Base Station to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) Agro Rangers to strengthen security in the Kanawa Forest.
During the handover ceremony, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Water Resources and Forestry, , commended the foresight and commitment of the ACReSAL Project Coordinator, noting that the state government remains committed to preserving the heritage of Kanawa Forest and developing it to international standards.
In his remarks, . , of Gombe State ACReSAL, explained that the project was executed on the directive of , who emphasized the need to provide adequate support for forest security. He highlighted that the facilities include a security office, research centre, officers’ quarters, and motorcycles for patrol operations. He added that sustained attention will be given to Kanawa Forest until it becomes a centre for research and tourism.
, , expressed appreciation to ACReSAL for the initiative and commended Governor Yahaya for his political will and consistent support. He assured that the Corps will intensify efforts to strengthen security in the forest.
Also speaking, the , , acknowledged ACReSAL’s developmental contributions and pledged to support community security agencies, particularly the NSCDC, in protecting the forest and surrounding communities. As a mark of appreciation, he conferred the traditional title of on Dr. Jauro.
Responding on behalf of staff, ACReSAL Communications Officer expressed gratitude for the honour bestowed on the Project Coordinator, adding that the award would strengthen the commitment of the Project Coordinator and the entire ACReSAL Team to environmental sustainability, community security, and the promotion of Kanawa Forest as a hub for research and tourism.
